Hell's Canyon

Last weekend I booked the Hell's Canyon Guard Station on a whim. Hell's Canyon Creek is a tributary of the Jefferson River just north of Twin Bridges, that flows out of the oft overlooked Highland Mountains. The drainage is in fact, only a canyon, near its confluence with the Jeff. In its upper reaches its a massive bowl without another permanent structure around. It was 15 miles of snow drifts on dirt roads getting in but the stay was worth the drive.

The wide open upper reaches of Hell's Canyon.

The highlands high point, Table Mountain as seen from an easterly ridge.

The view out towards the Tobacco Roots.

Asleep on the porch of the most excellent forest service cabin.
